What's in a name?

Anybody out there an MCSE? How would you feel if I started handing out MCSE certifications to anyone who could say "Windows?" Would you feel cheated?

Well, of course you'd feel cheated, for many reasons. Primarily because I would have no business handing out a certification that belonged to another company. Microsoft created the MCSE certification, and therefore Microsoft sets the rules for MCSE certification and decides who gets certified and who doesn't.

With that in mind, check out Genesis 2:22-25, and Mark 10:1-9. The God of the Bible created the institution of marriage. The same God set the rules for marriage as being between one man and one woman. The institution of marriage does not belong to man, but to God; man has no more authority to redefine marriage than I do to hand out MCSE certifications.

Furthermore, to call homosexual partnerships "marriage" degrades the institution of marriage in the same way that my handing out bogus MCSE "certifications" would degrade the entire MCSE certification process. Chuck Colson hit the nail on the head:

But what's wrong is, when a society gives equal moral weight to the homosexual "marriage" as to the heterosexual, the institution itself loses meaning. It can no longer be the basic unit for procreation and character formation of children -- it is simply an agreement for two people, any two people, to live together and practice whatever sex they choose.

It's that simple, folks.
