A recent NewsMax editorial brings up another problem with the current state of airline "security."
Conventional idiocy holds that we shouldn't arm airline pilots, because that's far too dangerous. Instead, we should install reinforced cockpit doors on all the airplanes. Ignore the fact that such a retrofit will cost exponentially more, and take exponentially longer, than providing a complimentary .357 and pre-fragmented ammo for every airline pilot in the world. What happens when a pilot needs to use the restroom, or get something to eat? They will have to open the reinforced cockpit door, thus nullifying any security benefit it might provide. Should we retrofit every cockpit with a head and a kitchenette? If we weren't talking about terrorism, this would be hysterical.
Here's an action item for you: Call, write, fax, email, and otherwise contact your elected officials, and demand to know why the pilots are not armed right now. Ask them if they are waiting for another 9/11 before they actually force the bureaucrats at the TSA to live by the law Congress already passed. Contact your favorite airline and inform them that you will be flying only as a last resort until their pilots are armed, and that if they want to start making money again they'll need to pay more than lip service to the concept of "security."
